FNPH KADUNA LAUNCHES TELEPSYCHIATRY UNIT, UNVEILS https://fnphkad.cloud/ PLATFORM
The Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Kaduna, Prof. Aishatu Yushau Armiya’u, has commissioned the hospital's Telepsychiatric Unit.
The unit, with the tagline “Connect, Consult, Care”, was commissioned today at the hospital complex in the presence of management, clinicians and journalists.
The high point was a live demonstration where a patient connected to the clinical team via video call, showing how follow-up consultations can now be done from home.
In her address, Prof. Armiyau described it as the most exciting day of her life, saying her dream is for patients to receive affordable, available and accessible mental health care from their homes.
"My dream is to see a patient stay in his house to have affordable, available, accessible mental health care at home," she said.
She noted that many patients "come down the ladder socially" and travel from far places like Sanga Local Government Area for care, a burden the new unit will eliminate.
Explaining the clinical side, Dr. Gidado said the platform is strictly for follow-up patients and not for emergencies. He said patients must have had first physical contact and assessment in the hospital before they can be onboarded for virtual follow-up, prescription and clinical notes.
Speaking on the technology, Malam Ahmad of the ICT Department, said the system was built with sophisticated technology and multiple layers of security to ensure patient data privacy and protection from cyber vulnerabilities.
According to him, the platform is accessible via fnphkd.cloud where patients can book consultation, make payment and access their records. He disclosed that any patient with a hospital number and internet access can connect even outside Kaduna and does not need to be tech-savvy.
He further disclosed that the hospital will onboard 23 Centres of Excellence of the Kaduna State Government as technical partners, and that a mobile application will soon be deployed on Play Store, while a promotional video will be released to guide patients on how to use the platform.
Prof. Armiyau thanked staff, media, patients and well-wishers for their support, describing patients as major stakeholders.
With the launch, FNPH Kaduna has set the pace for digital mental health care in Northern Nigeria.
